Business Ethical Practices and Performance of Commercial Banks, South-South Nigeria
Abstract
This study examined the business ethical practices and performance of commercial banks in south- south, Nigeria; with particular focus on transparency, integrity and fairness. Extant literature was used and sourced from print materials and online publications. The findings revealed that transparency enhances accountability and stakeholder confidence, integrity promotes ethical leadership and strengthens organizational culture; while fairness increases employee satisfaction, motivation, and commitment. The study concluded that business ethical practices are therefore not only moral obligations but also strategic tools that support organizational success. The study recommended that management of commercial banks should implement clear communication channels, regular reporting, and timely disclosure of relevant information to stakeholders to build trust and strengthen governance. Also, management of commercial banks should encourage leaders and employees to consistently align actions with organizational values through training, codes of conduct, and monitoring systems, since integrity fosters commitment, loyalty and productivity.
